You may have noticed that one of the most common traits about successful and well-liked people is their humbleness. It is not that they are humble because they are well liked and successful but the other way round.

This trait of being humble help them be well-liked, build relationships and eventually be successful in life. They are also happy because it is scientifically proven that a good relationship is among one of the most important variables that make a person happy.

Follow these steps and you will forever be perceived by people to be humble and also be humble from inside.

1. REALIZE YOU MAY BE GOOD IN SOMETHING BUT THERE IS ALWAYS SOMEONE BETTER

Since ancient times there were many people who were called to be best in their field, only to witness later that they have been bettered. Who thought that someday Newton will be outshined by a scientist called Albert Einstein. Who would have thought that Usain Bolt will be beaten for the first time in 100 meters at the World Athletic Championship?

We all need to acknowledge our limitations which eliminates the major hindrances to act humbly in your daily lives.

2. UNDERSTAND EVERY PERSON IS GOOD IN SOMETHING

There are certain times when we belittle someone because the person appears to really goof up a simple or important act. You must understand that each individual is good in something and however miserably that person may appear to have performed in your eyes; there is always some things that he or she can do better than you.

It is just what you have witnessed now is not one of them.  This realization itself will let you remain in the path of humbleness.

3. ALWAYS ADMIT WHEN YOU MAKE MISTAKE

Mature people know that apologizing for your mistakes won’t make you less of a person. It not only gives you peace of mind but always helps to cultivate the crop of humbleness which, no matter how grave the mistake, will be alleviated after a period of time.

People appreciate if you are willing to admit that you need to improve. It shows how you are not stubborn and selfish. However a word of caution that you should not admit a mistake for something you are not responsible just to appear humble. This will just prove to be the opposite.

4. BEGIN WITH QUESTIONS,  AVOID GIVING OPINIONS

During the start of a conversation or beginning of a meeting try to always begin by probing questions to establish a fact no matter how confident you are of your opinion. The exception, however, is when you are asked for an opinion by others and when there are important things at stake when you must act quickly.

5. APPRECIATE OTHERS, GENUINELY

It is a well-known fact that you need to appreciate others for their good act or gesture. However, you must appreciate others when you genuinely feel so. What if you can’t appreciate people? some people do have difficulty appreciating others.

A genuine and well-deserved appreciation goes a long way to establish you as a humble person and people also tend to like such people more

6. DON’T BOAST OF YOUR FEATS

It is an inherent human nature to feel good about boasting about one’s accomplishment. However other people do not like to hear people bragging about their feats and telling stories around it.

While it is completely alright to talk about your achievement but keep it short and specific as other people may not be enjoying listening to it as much as you do talking about it.

7.  ASK FOR FEEDBACK

You always need to have a perspective from other people to improve whatever is important to you. Many companies spend a lot of money to get customer feedback, they would not do that if they could think about all areas of improvement themselves.

Seeking feedback no only makes you aware of the areas of improvement but also make you appear humble and well-grounded.

8. DEVELOP ACTIVE LISTENING SKILLS

You should listen to other people attentively. Active listeners fully concentrate, understand, respond and then remember what is being said. This not only helps you in building wrong stories about individual or situation but also makes you aware of the situation better.

9. ADMIT WHEN YOU DON’T KNOW

Try not to fake your level of knowledge or skill by making up an answer when you don’t know one. Admit if you don’t know something. It does not make you any less skilled or knowledgeable.

10. GIVE OTHERS THE BENEFIT OF DOUBT

Always be open-minded and don’t rush to judgment. Things are rarely as they seem, so give faith and trust until and unless you decide you can’t.
